Error 712 Restoring Document Definition. Table not Found. Help!

Hello,

Today our admin tried to enter some data in one of our forms on Dataease 7.2.3.814 and got an error message:

Error 712 Restoring Document Definition. Table not Found.

When I go to the table and click on it it says: Error 712 Adding Form.  Table not found.  Not sure what to do from this point.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  And of course our back up hasn't been functioning correctly so our last backup was a month ago.  Other forms are working.

Thank you and I appreciate any advice.

Matt

I am afraid to say this is where the backup would be handy. If you don't have a working backup you will have to re-construct your app by taking the old table definition and data from the backup and merge it into the recent version.

But before you go there try to run the status report "records" and find the file names for the files that has gone missing. When you have found the names check if any of them .dbm or .tdf is found in your app catalogue. The most important of them is the .dbm file which contains the data.

If the data file is still there you are in luck if not you will have to restore it from the backup.

This is what you do.

  • 1. Take a copy of the app to play with (the most recent one)
  1. 2. Restore the missing files from the latest backup.

    3. Copy the restored files into the "play" app, remember only the missing files and they have to have the same name as the missing files.

  2. 4. Open the "play" app and reorganize all the forms.
This will only work if there has been no changes to the table etc since the backup.
If this happened because someone tried to change the table, the data should be in a Temp Form xx.

Re:Re:Error 712 Restoring Document Definition. Table not Found. Help!

Thank you for your help. I am not sure what happened but it seemed to start working again.  For some reason I think it started pointing to an older backup version of my database.  Very odd but once I manually pointed it to the right one we were back in business.

Thanks again and take care,

Matt

No problem. Glad to be of assistance and that your application is working again. That is what we want ;-)

Unfortunately I have the same problem but if I run the status report "records" and i didn't find  the file name that has gone missing (I suppose TDF file). There's no Temp form xxxx . How can I solve the problem?

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:Error 712 Restoring Document Definition. Table not Found. Help!

If there is no Temp Form xx you should see if there is two entries in the Tables with the same name.

If there is two tables with the same name then it is likely that the first one point at a file name that don't exist and the last one point at the actual file.

The way to fix this problem is either to go back to an earlier version (backup) or you fix the RDRR manually.
