You have already read the innumerous advantages you will gain from upgrading to DataEase 7.1, but how will you bring your data across?
First, a bit of background information.
DataEase 7.1 has had a major revamp not only in look and feel but also within its very core. Along with its use of the 64 bit file system; there are many other changes in the storage of both data and definitions. (As examples, in file structure the way memo fields and standard date fields are stored has been changed, and in objects lookup choice controls have been merged with multibox controls, and 3D and 'ordinary' objects have been merged).
This means that if you are using DataEase 6.x you will have to "migrate" your application to DataEase 7.1. To facilitate this, DataEase 7.1 includes a migration tool that will automatically upgrade a complete application from DataEase 6.x.
However, if you are using earlier versions you can still go through some "stepping stones" to reach your final destination, but we would strongly recommend you consider using our conversion services for a fast, reliable and cost-effective solution.

a Migration Path to DataEase 7.1:
From DFW 5.x Upgrade to DataEase 6.52, and then use the DE7 Migration tool.
From DFW 6.x Use the Migration tool with DE7
From DFD 4.X Upgrade to DFD 5.53, and then use the Migration tool with DE7.1.
From DFD 5.x Upgrade to DFD 5.53 and then use the Migration tool with DE7.1.

Having performed over 200 DataEase conversions, Sapphire offers a range of options to suit your particular requirements:
- Core Convert - A basic conversion from DataEase DOS to DataEase 6. All components of the application are converted (including data) with the exception of DQL procedures. This is the quickest and most cost effective means of moving your application to DataEase 6.
- Full Convert - A full conversion assumes that the functionality of the original DFD application will be fully reproduced in a new DE 6.5 application without any changes. Using our proven methodology this is the quickest method for providing you with a fully functional Windows application without compromising on quality.
- Full Convert Plus - This is essentially a two-phase process for converting your DOS application to Windows and adding new functionality to cater for additional business processes. The fist stage is Full Convert and when complete an analysis of the new functionality is obtained, specified and then added to the new application.
