I am writing this as a knowledge sharing exercise.

I was working with one customer on setting up DataEase for DOS 4.53 in MS Windows environment. Windows 2003 server and Windows XP workstations. Reason for this, their Novell server crashed and they are moving into Windows 2003 server. After doing all the basic steps with dename, depath....etc. When I lock the database on one computer, another user from other computer managed to login without any error messages. Trying all sort of registry settings, drive mapping...etc. with no luck.

After long breath overnight, it came to my mind from my past customer experience. It is Novell client/drivers still sitting on the Windows XP workstations. After uninstalling the Novell client from the Windows XP workstations......started seeing some light. Waiting for RDRR.....etc. When I lock the database, second user unable to get in.....and all other lock testing works fine.
