mixed installation

Is it possible to mix L4D workstations/clients and XP 32 bit workstations/clients with "normal" installation in one network?

Hi.

Yes. Absolutely no problem and this is how we recommend you running it.

We have clients with several hundred users that has been running XP and now move jump from XP to Windows 10.

And it would be impractical if they had to change all the Machines in one go. As we all know, setting up a new workstation is not as quick and easy as Microsoft would like to make us believe ;-)

The best thing with L4D is that it is a Windows Product at hart and all networking/file access etc is basically modern windows, so even though you have to map the drives internally in L4D that is for the benefit of DataEase for DOS and it's emulated world.

As long as you share the same networking files (5.x) and run the application the same way there is nothing stopping you sharing the App between L4D and XP run DFD.

But eventually one should of course get rid of all XP machines in the network as Windows will follow the lowest common denominator for networking protocol and as long as you have one XP machines it will default to running SMB1.

When you get rid of all XP machines you will find that your networking is much smother and with less problems - especially from a DataEase viewpoint.

Re:Re:mixed installation

The same with DFD 4.53 with the files in the workingdirectory

- denetwrk.ovl

- printers.dat

- configur.dat

right?
