DeMigrate.exe problem?

If I open an old database using 8.5 I am prompted if I wish to Migrate - If I accept then the whole database is migrated including data.

I do not want the whole database migrated with data, so I run demigrate.exe.  This then asks me to select a database to migrate, I click Next and a Browse for Folder box is displayed, showing folder names etc for me to select from - But they are all greyed out, I cannot select any of them or move the vertical scroll bar, my only option is to Cancel.

Is this a bug or a change of thought on what users can do?

I was using the latest version (2500).

Re:DeMigrate.exe problem?

Demigrate is not a standalone tool anymore. You control it 100% from inside DE85.

The previous "regime" was very much in love with ini settings and options/configuration which mostly confuse the users.

It is our job to make the product work out of the box for 99% of the users in 99% of the use cases.

Obviously we are not close to that target yet, but that is our goal.

Over the last years we have spent a lot of time testing all the options in DataEase and mostly "tinkering" with the settings only cause problems rather than improvement.

It is much better that we spend more time getting things right, than for each users sitting there with a Airfix set and building their own environment ;-)

That said, there is plenty of occasions in Migration where you need to tinker so we have not removed any settings, we have simply skipped them so the majority of users will get the best result first time around.

Main reasons for using the settings is Data format which was ruined in DFW 5.x/6.x so you basically have to set it manually if you don't use UK standard.

To be able to migrate without data simply press the back button and then uncheck the copy data.
