Database Links

Hi All,

It’s me again. I have data that I can obtain in SQL Server 2008, MYSQL or Microsoft Access. I can also get it in ASCII but I was hoping link directly via ODBC or other. Out of my choices which one is the best to use? Access is the easiest to obtain but I don’t think I can link directly to Access can I?

Thanks Again

Re:Database Links

You can access data in both SQL server and Access with ODBC.

ODBC is "outdated" but it still works but we have done no work on it is a decade so it works better on older databases than newer ones.

You can very well get it to work very well - particularly if you only want to read from Access.

You only need to configure the ODBC link in ODBCAdmin 32 bit (not 64 bit).

Then you use the Link in 8.5 ODBC Links.

Link name can be anything you like, Engine Type is Other Engines over ODBC and the most important is Server Name which is the name you gave the link in ODBC Admin.

Then simply click ADD and you should see the available Tables.
