Hi.

DataEase has been managed by several different teams over the years and not all of them have been to into the lingo.

I remember myself when I started looking into 7.1 after having been away from DataEase for a number of years that this thing "threw" me.

A lookup is a "religious concept" in DataEase so to name a dropdown a lookup field is completely wrong and this has been corrected in DE9.

First I have to ask you what you are trying to do?

1. Create a Lookup as in the old days
2. Create a dropdown that is a relationship based choice list.

If 1.
Do it in the old way.
write derivation

Lookup relationship field

As me you might again have been thrown by the fact you can't find lookup anywhere in functions etc... that is because its categorised as a operator. (see above).

So nothing has changed here.

2. If you are trying to create a relationship based dropdown/combobox

The concept of a multibox is that it is a dropdown/combobox that should work as CTRL-F10 etc. Again the people that originally made it was not DataEase people and used concepts and approach that is not typical for DataEase (this too has been corrected in DE9).

I to could not get the head around it for a long time as it is like a code lock where you have to get it all right at the same time.

a) You need a relationship to build it on. Use an existing or create a new.
b) You need to select the bound column - this is the column that will be returned by the selection. To do this you need to click on the column in the list (name) and then hit the bound button.
c) you can select any number of information columns to show up in the dropdown.

Show all Records means that you will override the relationship constraints and return all the rows in the table.
Allow free input means that it is a combobox, you can either select from the list or type in your own value.

We have revised Multibox completely in DE9 and it is now much simpler and more powerful.
