I have migrated applications from 6.5 to 8.5 successfully. I have found that I cannot backup as there is no backup or restore facility under the application/utilities menu. How do I backup please.

Hi Giles.

There is still DE backup/Restore in DE85 but we don’t recommend to use it which is why its been removed from the menus.

DataEase backup/restore has never backed up all parts of what a user think of as an application i.e. images/linked documents etc, when at the same time it compact the tables (reorganize). This has been looked on as a feature by some but in reality it can corrupt your data and render a backup useless.

In DE8 onwards we recommend that you simply zip down the catalogue containing your application and store the zipped catalogue on separate device. You will find the Zip function by right clicking on the catalogue in explorer.

In DE9 we have added zipping down as part of the Application Dashboard.

If you want to still use DE backup/restore you find the actions on buttons as Application Backup and Application Restore.
