Old good de4.53 has a problem related to sequenced fields
I have made a db with 1 form and 1 table related to it. a few fields in the form. one is sequenced and others are number type fields related to that one. I got amazing results when using that db... now trying to find out if the problem roots are deep in Datamaster, dease 2.53 , de 4.2 ....
as to 9 ... there is no sequenced fields in it but thx for SEQUENCE app...
Re:Old good de4.53 has a problem related to sequenced fields
Just tested that db with L4D ... the problem has disappeared. not bad tool. I believe it will help with de4.24 nevertheless. Glory to DataEase team. Thank You !
Re:Re:Old good de4.53 has a problem related to sequenced fields
Glad you got it working. No L4D has been a life saver for a lot of clients but even with L4D running DFD is coming to an end as its a little like the SR71 there is not the parts and fuels for it anymore even though it's the best plane ever built still.
Its now over a decade since we took over as caretakers of the DataEase legacy and it has been both challenging and rewarding.
Obviously DataEase need to find its natural place in the 21st century and that is neither through DFD or DFW as both technologies is getting long in the tooth.
DataEase has in many ways been in the wrong place as our job is to be Data made Easy and strictly speaking that is not what happened with DataEase for WIndows etc.
For a long time "heavy" migrations from DFD to DFW was the main bread and butter for the DataEase system. A heavy, costly and unpleasant job for both the developers and the customers that invariably ended up with a system that was didn't have the ingenuity and easy of use that DFD had.
Most of them had made their own DFD systems but ended up with a costly migration that they couldn't really do anything themselves with anymore.
We are heading back to the simplicity (2Imply aka Simply).
WHat to do with our Legacy customers has been a headache as we don't want to leave them behind but at the same time we need to move on to recruiting new users and new usage.
So what we ended up doing was simply to take them with us...
We made DE9 database compatible with DFD so you can update your DFD app to a headless DE9 application where all tables, derivations, relationships and DQL's etc work as before.
Then we simply migrate the forms, reports, menus, imports and DQL's to 2imply while we even retain the DFD look.but with one click of a button, it can look modern...
So basically the client will be able to just take their existing system, port it to the web (DFD) and continue using it "as is".
For the LE9 customers (eveyone from DFW 5.x to 8.5 can migrate to LE9 and run the app without any problems AS IS) will be able to run a hybrid application where they run the LE9 application "as is" while the at the same time can publish forms on the web (the entire application if they want) etc.
We have decided to not support OML on the web as the usage is detrimental to what the web is so any forms using OML will simply work as is with DataEase functionality without OML. One can modify and audit the documents in LE9 and re-publish them as many times as one like till one get the functionality one want.
You can of course develop any application from scratch in 2imply too.
Exciting times.
Quick report ala DOS that dynamically create a DQL and layout etc.
