Reading/Sharing data with other applications

It's very important and useful for us to share some particular DataEase tables between our various databases. I don’t know if I have to use ODBC or other things using version 8 of DataEase and don’t even know how to use it properly. Could you kindly send me the information about it and send me a "sample DB" so that I can run some tests?

Re:Reading/Sharing data with other applications

DataEase sharing of data has not been high on any lists for a long time. It used to be quite good in 4.53 and Express but after that I think it went down the wrong direction.

Obviously reading DataEase data from other systems have been even more absent.

There are some third party ODBC drivers but most of them is not up to scratch and none of them have been updated to 8.x format (or even 7.x).

At the moment we concentrate on improving DataEase so we too don’t focus much on sharing data with other databases.

ODBC is simply to rudimentary and the way DataEase read/write and handle data is not conducive to integrating SQL tables etc in a table.

Our approach in DE8 will simply be to include a couple of Functions to read/write remote data. Initially this Is to read data from other DE8/DG3 applications, but as the format is based on HTTP you will in principle be able to do the same with Oracle/Sybase etc i.e. any stuff that support this technology.

You can of course already use ODBC to read/write into other databases, but as this interface has never been a priority it is not very good and it is quite awkward to use.

Re:Reading/Sharing data with other applications

HI Marco

You can share data by doing import  / export between the various databases.
