DE8 with Windows OneDrive
DE8 with Windows OneDrive
Greetings All - Has anyone tested using a DE8 application that has it's files stored on a Microsoft OneDrive storage space that resides in the cloud? I've been using a DE8 application with this setup and I've had no issues thus far. It is very helpful especially for having the freedom to access the application from anywhere my laptop with DE8 installed can access the WEB. I now want to allow access to other users so that we can all use the application simultaneously. I reason that it should work just fine as long as the internet connection is decent and the application is not processing intensive. Thanks -Robert
Re:DE8 with Windows OneDrive
Hi Robert.
It should definitely work fine as long as you are using it as a single user. We do this to on shared developments as it is very practical to have the latest updates available for all the involved developers. However we make sure that we don't do changes at the same time.
I am not sure how well this would work in a Multi User environment as you really run things on a local copy and OneDrive sync with the Cloud drive so you are not really running on the same data in multiple locations. How OneDrive handles conflicts and changes in the same files etc. is not something we have tested yet but is likely to cause loss of data and inconsistencies.
If you are going to try this out make sure you test it properly with intensive use in multiple locations at the same time on a test system to see how it works before relying on this approach.
If you do test this the community would love to hear about your experiences with it good or bad, so we hope you will comment on here with your verdict.
Another way to run DFW 8.x on the cloud is to offer up the entire application via a cloud software like Parallels.

This is a much safer way and also give the benefit of being able to run the App on iPad and Android etc..
