DE 4.53 error

I have a very old version of DataEase (4.53 16M) which runs in DOS.  I have never changed it as it works so well!  HOWEVER, I have a problem twice a year.  The first time I open it after the clock on the computer changes (due to changes to Summer/Winter time), I get an error trying to go into a database 'User directory open error'.  I normally get around this by reloading the installation disks, or, if I remember in advance, by taking a backup of the folder prior to the time change, and then restoring it after the time change.  However, this weekend when the clocks went back, I forgot to backup, and I don't have the disks at hand to re-install.  Anyone got any ideas?

(P.S. I've tried changing the date on the computer back to prior to the change, backing up, and then changing the date and time back to current and restoring the backup, but this doesn't work).

Re:DE 4.53 error

Search and you will find.

The problem is the timestamp on the userform.xxx file.

It need to be 3.14 but when the daylight saving happens it goes to 2.14 or 4.14 respectively.

The problem now has escalated though as Microsoft has decided that a file that is unzipped is now created when it is unzipped so if you run a modern version of Windows this method might not work.

However running DFD you most likely run XP etc and then it would work.

Again it might be a problem if you run an italian version of 4.53 as the file will then be called userform.ita or something like that. If you rename the userform.dbs that is unzipped here it might change the timestamp. You just have to try and see.

There is also plenty for freeware timestamp utilities out there that might do the trick.

Re:Re:DE 4.53 error

Thank you VERY much!

I changed the USERFORM.DBS timestamp from 03:14 to 04:14, and it now works perfectly.

Must remember to change it back when we change back to SUMMER TIME!

Re:Re:Re:DE 4.53 error

I always add the following line to the .BAT that starts DataEase:

Touch.com USERFORM.DBS /T:3:14:16

The timestamp on the file gets changed every time DataEase is started, so I never have to worry.

You can find touch.com online at:
