Just wondering if it is possible to import data directly from an Excel file without having to change or save the file in a different format. In other words what is the fastest way to import data from an Excel file? I have been saving the file as a .CSV &/or changing the file into a .TXT file before importing. Just wondering if there was a faster way?

The quick answer is no. Excel format is not purely a data format but a document format which need to be interpreted.

To allow us to import directly from Excel it would mean that the user had to follow so many restrictions (current version) that it would be unpractical in real life.

When you export the data to CSV you force the data to be formatted in an exchangeable format which excel is not.
