LegEasy 6 Windows - Spoilt for choice?

Our way or no way! That is how it used to be around here. We took our time in updating and changing the product, and when it was published, that was more or less it. If you liked it - fine, if you didn't - What are you going to do about it?

Our primary goal is to make money, and to make money we need happy customers. You pay us, and we deliver what you want. Sometimes we need to behave like parents, and give you what we believe you need, rather than what you ask for and hope that we got it right, and that you will realise that we were right when you got to see and test it.

For a long time DataEase did very little listening, and when we did we listened to the wrong people. As it turns out, it is not always the ones that cry the loudest that are right.

When we made LegEasy 6 Windows, is was because we realised that we hadn't listened, and that people really struggled with migrating/upgrading from 6.x to 7.x. We realised that it is not good enough to simply say "upgrade or die" or "My way or the high way!", we needed to start looking after our customers and offer them a proper route forward.

LegEasy 6 Windows was the first one, and since 6.52 was rather dated, we decided to make it a little lively to celebrate the occasion. A lot of you love the fact, but some think it is too "glamorous" or "unprofessional". The first order of the day when you want to get attention is to stand out so people notice. LegEasy 6 Windows has been noticed now and it is a little embarrassing to admit that it has been the best seller of the year. We made it as a helping hand, and it looks like we hit the market spot on. We haven't really marketed it as we don't want to flaunt the fact that we are back stepping, but the market have got wind of it anyhow, and it has sold as quickly as fresh bread. In LegEasy 6 Windows we make a promise not to ruin 6. One of the big problems with moving from 6.x to 7.x is all the functionality that has be redeveloped (read changed), the changed file format, character set and problems that stem from this. We only have to mention "new memo" and people faint from exhaustion. So the order of the day in LegEasy 6 Windows is to keep the format and the functionality unchanged, so everyone can rest assured that when they move their application from 5.x or 6.x-6.52 it will work the same way. This doesn't mean that we don't fix stuff. We have fixed more bugs in LegEasy 6 Windows, than was created in DataEase 7.0, so by going to LegEasy 6 instead of DFW 7.0 you lose the same amount of bugs as you would have gained. This is a joke of course, but not far from the truth ;-) So when we can't do anything with the functionality (we do that in spades in DataEase 8), we will have to accomodate you in other ways so enter "Special versions". LegEasy 6 Black is the first such version, and it will be followed of at least 3 more. If LegEasy 6 Windows (Ordinary) is to glamorous, Black is, Yes - Black! If you don't like Ordinary or Black, just watch this space. You will soon be able to have a go at Traditional, Neutral (No design at all) and Modern. If you in the end don't like any of them, you can buy your own design (nice for the ones of you that sell DataEase 6.x apps to third party customer) with your own design. If you already have .PSD files etc and you know what you want, you can buy your own design on LegEasy 6 Windows for as little as £198. As some of you might have noticed, we don't sell 7.x any more, except as extra users. The reason for this is that 7.2 was never made to recruit new DataEase customers. It was designed as an upgrade to existing users, and as such it has failed. We now want everyone that hasn't already migrated to 7.x to stay put in 6.x till DataEase 8 is ready.
